attentiveness

The concept of mindfulness is versatile and until today there is no universal definition. Nevertheless, the ideas are usually in the same range. Concentration, caution and attention are terms that come very close to the domain of mindfulness.

What is mindfulness

In meditation, mindfulness can help you better understand your own body and mind.

In the West, mindfulness is a term derived mainly from psychology. In English, the term "mindfulness" is used for mindfulness. On a psychological level, expression is treated and handled as a form of attention. It is an awareness or perceptual state, which may inter alia designate a certain protective mechanism.

There are some definitions. Well-known psychologists such as Kabat-Zinn, Brown and Ryan and Bishop have tried to define the term. In the totality of definitions, there are approaches that call mindfulness non-judgmental and present. The term is associated with awareness, but also clarity of consciousness and an empirical attitude in relation to reality. Added to this is curiosity, openness and acceptance, as well as the goal of the most constant possible perception of what has been experienced or grasped. Mindfulness should not contain any valuation in itself, but at the most trigger emotions.

Mindfulness differs in a crucial point of concentration. Although both refer to some kind of attention, concentration concentrates perception on a particular point. Everything else is hidden as possible and only subconsciously understood. Thus, concentration helps people to perform tasks conscientiously and to avoid mistakes. In mindfulness, on the other hand, the attention area expands rather than narrows. The orientation is opposite to accommodate the wealth of perceptions.

Function & Task

Basically, mindfulness is a fundamental quality of the human mind. It is basically nothing that man would have to learn first. Nevertheless, there is the possibility to extend the mindfulness of different meditation exercises. This principle is mainly used in Buddhism. The goal is to become aware of your body and mind through mindfulness. The clarification of one's own feelings and feelings helps to deal with it and to better understand one's own self. In addition, attention can be directed to changes in one's own state of mind. Thus, affected people can talk about questions of their own health and possibly influence their own mind.

However, mindfulness does not only refer to the interior, but also to the perception of the exterior. So, the goal of meditation is to become aware of the environment in order to foster deeper understanding and to understand one's own reactions to external influences.

In the West, there are various mindfulness exercises in the field of psychotherapy. Basics form here awareness and awareness as well as the promotion of acceptance. These exercises are designed to help people become more aware of their environment and self, and to help calm down in irrational panic situations.

This therapy is used, for example, in the treatment of trauma or in the control of chronic pain. Meanwhile, mindfulness exercises are also used in the therapy and prevention of various physical and mental illnesses, which can increase life satisfaction.

In everyday life, people use mindfulness as a precautionary measure. As a rule, this is not a conscious process, but something that the human automatically does, unless he is distracted internally. Mindfulness helps to prevent accidents and respond to dangerous situations in a timely and appropriate manner. Mindfulness also has a connection to the physical reflexes of man.

Diseases & complaints

Mindfulness disorders can have a variety of causes. These include, for example, worries that allow those affected to turn their entire attention inwards. The attention is focused on this one point, which employs one. This prevents the extension of the perception to other things and thus often to those who could fight and distract the pondering. Often a refocusing of attention helps to be better able to deal with problems later and handle them differently.

Habit and routine also affect one's mindfulness and encourage dissatisfaction. For example, mindfulness sometimes has the goal of encouraging enjoyment and also of being aware of small things. This comes in stressful everyday life - especially in the industrialized countries - often too short. Humans are less inclined, less aware of their environment and more susceptible to stress. So it is increasingly difficult to enjoy life.

Thus, mindfulness can also be unlearned to a degree. Exercises can help prevent this or regain mindfulness. It is about not constantly thinking about the future or the past, or focusing your attention too much on one's own emotional life. It is not for nothing that mindfulness therapy is used in cancer patients, for depression and various anxiety disorders.

Mindfulness exercises can increase the quality of life and partly combat the triggers of stress or physical illnesses. Studies prove the positive effect of the exercises on one's own state of health. In addition, they can lead to a better emotion regulation and thus not only combat stress, but also prevent it from the outset.
