What is Afterjucken?

After itching describes the itching of the anus and surrounding areas. It is not an independent disease, but a symptom.

After itching describes the itching of the anus and surrounding areas. It is not an independent disease, but a symptom. Afterjuicing itself, however, can be problematic if it involves skin irritation or abrasion and injuries to the sensitive anal area.

Above all, afterjucken is an unpleasant, embarrassing problem: sitting still is then no longer possible and the well-being is significantly impaired.

Concerned individuals have the immediate problem of having to hide the after-effects from the environment, as it is often associated with filthiness or sexual practices that may not be associated with the public.

causes

Afterjucken may be due to a mechanical irritation, ie to a skin injury in the anal area. This can happen spontaneously, but also through anal intercourse or other sexual practices that involve the anus.

Occasionally, hemorrhoids become noticeable through after-itching and are accompanied by other characteristic symptoms. Diarrhea may also be followed by short-term after-itching - some people suffer from very hot meals with irritating diarrhea, which does not leave the skin of the anal area untouched.

In other cases, the causes are bacterial infections that can occur, for example, by inflamed wounds or subsequently by bacterial diarrhea. However, they can also be a result of unprotected sexual intercourse.

In children (and some adults), even worms can be a reason for the itching of the "Po" s. For more information, see worms in the chair in children, pinworms and roundworms.

course

Afterjucken usually develops spontaneously and does not have a typical course, as it depends on the cause. A bacterial infection in the anal area develops similar to other infections:

After a certain period of incubation, in which the bacteria multiply, the symptoms start slightly and become worse without adequate treatment, until the general well-being suffers and it no longer remains with the after-itching.

On the other hand, mechanical irritations such as those caused by hemorrhoids produce a constant after-itching, which no longer changes constantly, but remains relatively constant, provided the hemorrhoids do likewise. In case of diarrhea and minor injuries, after-itching usually returns quickly as soon as the cause has healed as well.

complications

Due to the itching of the anus, there is often a reflex scratching at the affected area. This scratching can lead to some complications. For example, scratching often causes lesions of the skin on the anus. As a result, it can lead to bacterial colonization and thus inflammation in the affected area. Furthermore, the lesions caused by scratching are often associated with pain that further reduces the well-being of patients. For this reason, it is important to point out that scratching should always be avoided as this is the most common cause of complications.

The failure of the itching is often difficult for the person concerned because the itching for the affected person is a major burden. For this reason, the first goal of the therapy is to relieve the itching as quickly as possible, even before the cause has been eliminated. This serves to relieve the sufferer of the burden of itching, and thus to keep him from scratching, which ultimately greatly reduces the risk of complications. Further complications due to the anus-jaw alone are not expected. Thus, it should be noted that the possible complications are not directly due to the symptom of the itch, but to the behavior of the patient.

When should you go to the doctor?

Itching on the anus is usually distressing for those affected, even more so where they can not easily scratch the itchy area in public. In addition, scratching mostly only brings relief in the short term and the mechanical irritation makes the problem worse. Afterjucken can cause mechanical reasons as well as bacterial reasons.

The skin around the anus is very sensitive and already reacts to fine itchy itchiness. Scratching can turn such a fine wound into a larger wound that can even become inflamed by bacterial attack. To get rid of the tormenting itching on the anus and avoid possible complications, it is advisable to visit the family doctor as early as possible.

Typical causes of itching on the anus are severe diarrhea, hemorrhoids, bacterial infections and worms. Also sexual practices in the anal area can cause itching at the anus. Afterjucken thus represents a symptom and is not itself a disease. Depending on the cause, the family doctor treats afterjuicing himself or refers to a specialist such as an internist. Often the Afterjucken can be finished with special ointments and powders. Help against worm infestations. Hemorrhoids may require removal by surgery.

Treatment & Therapy

Afterjucken is usually treated as a symptom because it represents a significant burden in the everyday life of those affected regardless of the cause. There are powders and ointments that can be applied directly to put an end to afterjujking when things get so bad that you do not want to go public without any worries.

Injuries of the anus need not be treated further if they do not inflame, they heal on their own. By contrast, bacterial causes of the itch are treated with antibiotics, but occasionally with soothing ointments for improved wound healing. The treatment is more difficult with mechanical irritation caused by hemorrhoids:

First of all, it must be reliably diagnosed that they are the trigger of the itching on the anus. Hemorrhoids are always suspected to cause cancer of the rectum that causes the symptoms. After exclusion, however, treatment of hemorrhoids may be considered, depending on the stage of the disease and the general condition of the patient and their desires.

Once the diagnosis is confirmed, however, it is easy to treat after-itching as a symptom. Ointments and similar applications help in the short term, and in the long term, sitz baths are recommended.

Outlook & Forecast

The most common cause of after-effects are enlarged hemorrhoids. These can usually be successfully treated with modern treatment methods without complications. However, irrespective of the treatment chosen, hemorrhoids can recur after a few years and cause the same symptoms as before.

Immediately after surgery, the patient may experience significant pain, bleeding and urinary disorders. These symptoms can be cured quickly in the hospital. In exceptional cases surgical intervention on the hemorrhoid may damage the sphincter muscle.

If the itching on the anus is due to cracks and fissures caused by heavy pressing during bowel movements, the success of the treatment correlates with the elimination of the cause of the problem. If the patient changes his diet and integrates sufficient exercise into his daily routine, the digestive system usually normalizes itself. After the clogging has disappeared, the resulting injuries usually disappear in a timely manner. The prerequisite for this, however, is that the patient actually follows the hygiene and care instructions of the doctor. Lack of hygiene can lead to complications in the form of severe or chronic inflammation.

If the itching on the anus has been caused only by a contact allergy, such as too aggressive a detergent, the symptoms usually resolve as soon as the skin is no longer in contact with the irritant.
